Alex Pella is now officially the fastest to circle the 70 nautical miles of Menorca with a time of 5:04:57h. This Friday, May 17, at 8:53:51 a.m. the Regatta Committee of the Club Marítimo de Mahón, organizer of “La vuelta a Menorca” (‘Re70 Menorca’), has started the Maxicat Victoria at the mouth of the port, heading south in the opposite direction to the one they took in the challenge achieved between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. Last Wednesday, May 15th, the 51st edition of the Trofeo de vela Conde de Godó BMW was presented to the media. The event will be attended by Jordi Puig, president of the RCNB, accompanied by Gonzalo Sanjuan, marketing director of BMW Spain; David Escudé, Sports Councilor of the Barcelona City Council; Xavier Torres, president of the Catalan Sailing Federation; Ana Godó, vice president of the RCNB and representative of the Godó family; and Pablo Garriga, commodore of the RCNB and director of the regatta.

Organized by the Royal Nautical Club of Barcelona with the collaboration of the Real Federación Española de Vela and the Federació Catalana de Vela, the 51st Conde Godó BMW Sailing Trophy is sponsored by BMW and supported by La Vanguardia, Barcelona City Council and the Generalitat de Catalunya. On May 13th the Barcelona Spring Series for the J70 class concluded in the waters of Barcelona under the organization of the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona. The competition consisted of three events held from March to May, with the title claimed by the team ‘HangTen Hnos. Berga’ from the Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria.

Led by Canary Islander Jorge Martínez Doreste, the team emerged as one of the main contenders after securing victory in the previous Barcelona Winter Series. Although their
results in the first two acts fell short of expectations, they staged an impressive comeback in the final act, thanks to a spectacular series of first-place finishes. This performance propelled them to the top of the podium, securing them the title of champions of the Barcelona J70 Spring Series.

Jordi Xammar, from the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona, and Nora Brugman, from Club Vela Blanes, have achieved glory by proclaiming themselves European 470 mixed champions in the prestigious competition held in Cannes.

With an outstanding performance, Xammar and Brugman achieved a 16-point lead over their closest competitors, consolidating themselves as the fittest 470 crew on the world scene. This duo has not only demonstrated their dominance on the water, but has also positioned itself as the only Spanish crew with the possibility of achieving the triplet: World, European and Olympic Games in this 2024.

After this impressive achievement, Xammar and Brugman are now heading to Marseille to join the rest of the Spanish Olympic team. Preparation for the most important sporting event of the year, the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, is next on their calendar.

Jordi Xammar, from the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona, and Nora Brugman, from Club Vela Blanes, have become the new and brand new world champions in the 470 class. In this crucial year, where the Olympic Games in Paris will be held, the Catalan crew has boasted its best performance in a decisive moment. After falling just short of the title in the two previous world championships, in Sdot Yam (Israel) and The Hague (Netherlands), they have finally won the precious gold, and moreover, in familiar lands, in S’Arenal (Mallorca).

The fifth act was taken by ‘Clinicas W’ with 14 points, followed by ‘Noticia’ with 20 points and closing the box ‘Hang Ten’ with 21 points.

‘Tenaz’ of Pablo Garriga, with very good races throughout the championship, was proclaimed champion of this 2022-2023 season. ‘Noticia’ of Luis Martin Cabiedes managed to maintain his second place and the last drawer on the podium went to ‘Clinicas W’ who, despite cutting points from their rivals, failed to pass them in the final standings.
